BMW introduced the M4 GTS, a track version of the standard M4, in 2016. It is a stripped back two seater that will be limited to just 700 units. Like the standard M4, it is powered by a 3.0 litre, twin turbo straight six. But the addition of water injection system that was first trialled on the MoTo GP safety car allows the GTS to increase boost and earlier spark timing without running the risk of grenading the engine. This gives the car an extra 68hp and an additional 36 ft/lb of torque. It is also equipped with a retuned vesrion of the originals M-DCT transmission.
The chasis has been upgraded with M coilover suspension with adjustable rebound and compression settings, and independantly adjustable low- and high-speed compression damping. Tires have been upgraded to M4 GTS specific Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2.
Weight saving comes from replacing the front seats with carbon fibre versions, as well as stripping back the dashboard and interior door panels. The bonnet has been replaced with a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic version, which is 25% lighter then the aluminium version, as well as the use of carbon-fibre elsehwhere throughout the body to save weight. The GTS version comes in at 1510kg's, 102kg's lighter then the standard M4.
